Ruben Cortez

La Villa- Ruben Cortez, 71, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Ruben was born January 24, 1951 to Hortencia Yruegas in La Villa, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Hortencia Yruegas; grandparents, Juan and Eva Cortez; sisters, Maria Balli, Bernardina Rios; brother, Gregorio Cortez. He is survived by his loving children, Diana Cortez (Ivan Cantu), Esmeralda Cortez (Ralph Castro) and Consuelo "Connie" Cortez. Ruben is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Aguinaga, Joseph Aguinaga, Briana Aguinaga, Kaitlin Cortez, Jorge Perez, III, Ruben Perez, Cassandra Perez; great-grandchildren, Moses Cortez, Matthew Cortez; spiritual family, Jorge Gonzalez, Veronica Gonzalez, Jorge Gonzalez, Jr., Santana Gonzalez, Pedro Gonzalez, Victor Gonzalez; siblings, Eva Capistran, Janel Bechtel, Jeanette Yruegas, Johnny Yruegas, Estephania Peña, Guadalupe Ramos, Juan Cortez, Jr. and Vicente Cortez. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.

Family will receive friends, Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapel in Edcouch. As per Ruben's wishes, he will be cremated at a later date.
