Michael W. McCandless

MCALLEN-Michael Wayne McCandless, 75, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at his McAllen residence.

Michael W. McCandless was born on September 21, 1947 in Monticello, Arkansas to James and Wilsie McCandless. He graduated from Round Valley High School in Springerville, Arizona where he played baseball and ran track. Michael then joined the Air Force and served from 1967-1971 as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War.  During his time in the Air Force he specialized in the areas of Fire Protection and Civil Engineering. Michael went on to attend college and began a career in Civil Engineering and Surveying working at Sigler, Winston, Greenwood & Associates and other firms. He was known to be skillful and handy at projects, a number and weather enthusiast, enjoyed woodworking and watching baseball.

Michael is preceded in death by his father James McCandless and mother Wilsie McCandless. Michael is survived by his son Joshua W. McCandless (Lisa) and grandchildren Madison Kaye McCandless, Katherine Elise McCandless, and Hunter Troy McCandless of Weslaco, Texas.

The McCandless Family would like to thank those that extended kindness and friendship to MAC through the years especially, JW & Cecily Dyer.

Interment of cremated remains will be Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rio Grande State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Chapels of Edcouch.
