Maria Guadalupe Contreras

MCALLEN - Maria Contreras 66, entered into eternal rest on December 13, 2024 at Solara Hospital. Maria was born on July 2, 1958 to Mariano and Teodora Hernandez in Rio Bravo, Mexico. 

Maria was not just a mother but the heart of her family, a beacon of positivity and happiness that radiated wherever she went. Throughout her life, she cherished each moment spent surrounded by her grandchildren and family, instilling in them the values of joy and togetherness. Her cheerful disposition and unwavering love created an atmosphere where laughter flourished and memories were made to last a lifetime.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents Mariano and Teodora Hernandez

Left to cherish her memory is her loving and devoted husband of 50 years Mario Contreras, children; Juan Antonio Contreras, Leticia Contreras( Josue Montemayor), Jorge Contreras, she is also survived by her brothers; Faustino Hernandez, Arturo Hernandez, Jose Luis Hernandez, Armando Hernandez, Jose Afredo Hernandez, Mario Alberto Hernandez and 16 grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday December 17, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m with a chapel service at 2:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapels in Edcouch. Burial will follow at Anahuac Community Cemetery in Edcouch. 

Though our hearts are heavy with the sorrow of her passing, the light that Maria brought into our lives will never fade. Her memory will forever remain a source of inspiration, reminding us to appreciate each moment and to find joy in the company of those we love. As we gather to honor Maria, let us carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and the cherished moments we shared with her.

Funeral services are under the direction of Dr. Joseph Conde and staff at Serenity Funeral Chapels located on 1401 E. Santa Rosa Ave Edcouch, Texas 78538.
