Monte Alto – Kathryn Joye “Kitty” Compton, 93, passed away October 5, 2020 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Kathryn was born July 3, 1927 to Arthur P. and Estha (Tidball) Gustke. Kathryn worked as a bookkeeper most of her life.
Kitty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Lowell Prather Compton. They resided most of that time in Lamar, Colorado where they owned and operated Corner Pharmacy and Kitty was a bookkeeper. They spent many summers in Colorado at their cabin near Westcliffe and finally retired to Port Mansfield, Texas. They then lived in Delta Lake for many years. Kitty is also preceded in death by her brothers Arthur and Donald Gustke of Halfway, Missouri; her stepson, Lowell Frederick Compton from Thornton, Colorado; and her nephews, John Weldon and Art Gustke also of Halfway Missouri.
Survivors include her daughter, Phryn Beyer from Utica, New York; two stepdaughters Kathleen Barber from Austin, Texas and Deborah Harris from Pueblo, Colorado. Also surviving Kitty are her four grandsons, Hayden; Ret. Army Captain Heath Anderson; Air Force Captain Nolan Anderson; and Landon Barber; and with two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at United Methodist Church in Edcouch, date and time to be determined. Kathryn will be cremated at a later date.
