Jose "Calin" Guzman

EDCOUCH - Jose "Calin" Guzman , 83 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on December 29, 2024. Jose was born on January 7, 1941 and dedicated his life to serving others, living humbly and generously.

Known for his kind spirit and giving heart, Jose was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He embodied the essence of friendship and compassion, reaching out to people from all walks of life. As a local business owner, he contributed significantly to the economy of Edcouch, fostering a sense of community through his unwavering commitment to service.

Jose proudly served as a city commissioner for four years and held the honor of being the Mayor of Edcouch for two years. His leadership was marked by a genuine desire to improve the lives of his fellow citizens, making him a respected figure and a cherished friend to many.

Jose "Calin" is preceded in death by his parents; Victor Guzman and Evangelina Guzman, brothers; Raymundo Guzman, Victor Guzman, and Daniel Guzman.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving children; Maria Perez, Danny Guzman, Raul Guzman, Angie Guzman, Evangelina Guzman Treviño, Gracie Guzman Alvarado, Josie Guzman, Janie Guzman, Victoria Guzman, Jose Calino Guzman, Victor Anthony Guzman, Christopher Guzman, Christiana Guzman, Christian Guzman and Christe Guzman. He is also survived by his sister Rose Marie Ruiz and 20 grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to honor Jose "Calin" 's memory on Friday January 10, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapels in Edcouch. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

As we mourn the loss of Jose Guzman, we take comfort in the relationships he fostered and the love he shared in his lifetime. Rest in peace, dear Jose. You will be missed but never forgotten.
