WESLACO – Joaquin “Shorty” Pedraza, 78, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Weslaco Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born August 16, 1940 to Narciso & Maria Pedraza in Mexico.
Joaquin was self-employed as a cotton picker mechanic. He loved fishing, deer hunting, barbequing and profoundly loved his grandchildren. Joaquin is survived by his wife, Margarita V. Pedraza; son, Joaquin (Cristela) Pedraza, Jr.; daughters, Elisa P. (Rodolfo R.) Rodriguez, Magdalena Pedraza, Silvia Martinez, Sonia P. (Guadalupe) Lucio, and Veronica Pedraza. Also surviving him are 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Esteban (Francis) Pedraza; sisters, Dolores (Alvaro) Torres and Irma (Jesus) Martinez; and nephew, Evaristo, Jr. (Noemi) Vasquez. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Cardoza Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing will continue Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Cardoza Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
