Gregorio Medina, Jr.

August 21, 1953 — August 29, 2020

(The following obituary was submitted by Gregorio’s son, George Medina).

Edcouch - Gregorio Medina Jr. known as “Gollito” or “Greg” to family and friends, wears his shades dark, his cross close, and rides low on this last ride, his 67th trip around the sun, past the paved road, through the gravel rocks, into the monte alto. On August 29, 2020 he rode beyond la villa, into the sunset and into peace, leaving behind all illness and pain. His spirit will live on in the love of his family; he has joined those that preceded him.

Gollito was born in Mercedes, Texas on August 21, 1953 into the heart of his parents, Gregorio Medina, Sr., and Amada Medina. He was the youngest of a large family of sisters and brothers; Gollito was loved and cared for by many.

Gollito is survived by his former wife, Alma Meza, and his children, Gregorio “Sonny” Medina, III, George Gabriel “Georgie” (& nuera, Letricia) Medina, Ramiro Rene Medina (& nuera, Karena) Medina, and daughter Erika Yadira Medina. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jose Luis Medina, Celinda Reyes, Dominic Ryan Medina, Michael Reyes, and Samuel Adan Medina. Surviving him also are his four great-grandchildren, Sophia Medina, Ebalina Collins, Angel Cano, and Isabelle Reyes. Gollito is survived by his brothers, Francisco Medina, Lauro (cuñada Lupe) Medina and Juan (cuñada Rosa) Medina.

Gollito is also survived by his sisters, Paulina Castillo, Ofelia Castillo, Maria De La Luz Cavazos, Socorro Hinojosa, and Ramona (cuñado Andres) Alcantar. Gollito had numerous nephews and nieces who affectionally called him Tio Greg.

Gollito is preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio Medina, Sr., and Amada Medina; brother, Aurelio Medina; sister, Consuelo Ortiz; cuñada Ramona Medina; and cuñados Félix Castillo, Julian Ortiz, Bernardo Castillo, Ramon Cavazos, and Reynaldo Hinojosa.

Gollito’s life rode him through many places – from towns in Texas - La Villa, Edcouch, Elsa, Monte Alto, La Meza, and Big Spring, to Bowling Green, Ohio, and Hamilton, Michigan. Lowriding the streets, avenues, hills, and valleys with one arm on the windowsill and the air blowing in his face, Gollito is now at peace.

The night is late. Gollito walks up to the pool table. Cue stick in hand. White chalk covers his palm and fingers. He takes aim. Eight ball, corner pocket. “Goodnight Irene.” He says. Gollito takes the shot and sinks it.
