Gilberto Villegas, Sr.

EDCOUCH-Gilberto Villegas Sr., was born May 23,1963 to Juanita Carrion, Juan Manual Villegas.  He gained his wings on February 7, 2024 at 2 a.m. with his father by his side. 

Gilberto is preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Carrion; sister, Rose Villegas; brothers, John John Villegas, Jessie Villegas and Ruben Villegas.

He was a beloved father to Maribel Villegas, Gilberto Villegas, daughter-in-law, Yanet Cabale-Villegas, He was an amazing grandfather to Khailey, Khloe and Paris.  He is also survived by his father, Juan Villegas; siblings, Aida Pierce, Yolanda Villegas, Rigo Villegas, Leticia V. Correa, Juan F. Villegas, David Villegas, Veronica Villegas Silguero and his former wife, Linda Montelongo. 

Gilberto was a man of his community.  He served as a Police Officer for Edcouch Police Department from 1985-1997 and was known as Chief by the E-E community.  He also served Edcouch as City Commissioner from 1995-1997, volunteered as a Coach for the Edcouch Little League from 1993-1998 and made several contributions to the Edcouch-Elsa High School band.  

Gilberto was loyal to his hometown and was loved and respected not just from his family but the Edcouch-Elsa community.  He will be missed but never forgotten by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be livestreamed on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. via Facebook for all his family and friends to view. At the family's request the services at the funeral home will be private for only immediate family.
