Connie Cardoza Garcia

March 30, 1977 — April 3, 2025

Beloved wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend to many, Concepcion “Connie” Cardoza Garcia peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was 48. Born on March 30, 1977, in Edinburg, Texas, to her two loving parents Osvaldo and Alicia Cardoza, Connie was the oldest daughter of six children, her little sisters, whom she loved dearly. Ever the dutiful big sister, Connie helped to raise her siblings as the first to navigate and show them the ways of this world. Connie excelled academically in school, played clarinet in band, and was an active participant in journalism, student government, theater, and other extracurricular activities and competitions. Connie was courageous to venture out of our small-town community to attend leadership programs in Washington, D.C. and in other areas in Texas. She is remembered fondly as a sweet, kind, and loving friend to her peers and all who knew her. One of her favorite memories from high school was traveling across Europe with classmates, visiting the Vatican in Rome, the Louvre and Eiffel Tower in Paris, and experiencing some of humanity’s greatest works of art. Connie graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1995 and attended the University of Texas in Austin. On March 31, 2001, the day after her birthday and at her favorite place, South Padre Island, Connie married Michael Garcia. Together, they raised three phenomenal children – Michael Liam, Julian Moises, and Leah Andrea.

Connie was a nurse by profession and a healer at heart. Others always sought her expert advice first when dealing with any medical ailment, and she was constantly turned to for guidance and support. Connie loved babies, and was present at many of her nieces and nephews’ births, once again helping her sisters and friends navigate a whole new world of motherhood. She just always seemed to know the right thing to do! Connie enjoyed the beach, was extremely proud of all her family’s accomplishments, adored her furbabies Bella, Pepper, and Prince, was the sharer of silly stories and memorable moments, and deeply cherished her family and friends. She was always just a phone call away, a helping hand, an empathetic listener, and a shoulder to cry on. As we reflect on her life, our hearts overflow with the memories of the joy and love that Connie gave us.

Connie’s greatest achievement and deepest source of pride and joy was raising her children. She loved them with her entire being and wholeheartedly supported their journeys, hobbies, and paths in life. She can rest easy knowing that she raised three amazing young adults in whom her passion, love, courage, strength and fortitude will live on forever.

Connie was diagnosed in December 2024 with Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML), an extremely rare brain disorder with no treatment or cure which progressed rapidly. Her husband and children lovingly cared for Connie with genuine compassion around the clock in her ultimate days. Connie passed peacefully, and her loved ones are comforted knowing that she is no longer suffering and finally at rest.

Connie is preceded in death by her namesake, paternal grandmother Concepcion Cardoza, paternal grandfather Oscar Cardoza, maternal grandfather Manual “Meme” Ramirez, and uncle Oscar Cardoza, Jr., among other ancestors who have passed, all who welcomed her with open arms and the brightest smiles at the gates of heaven.

Connie is survived by her husband, Michael Garcia, children, Michael Liam, Julian Moises, and Leah Andrea, parents, Osvaldo and Alicia Cardoza, sisters Karina Cardoza, Lisa Cardoza, Sara (Leo) Lozano, Selina (Drew) Martinez, and Rebecca (Tony) Perez, seven nephews, six nieces, and one great-niece.
